About the Program

De-Mystifying Social Security is a community-centered education initiative created for low- and moderate-income pre-retirees and their families, with a special focus on communities of color in California.

We are developing easy-to-use educational materials and digital tools that help people better understand their Social Security options before they claim.

The program includes:

  • Plain-language fact sheets

  • Step-by-step flow charts

  • Infographics and social media content

  • Presenter tools for community organizations

  • Participant worksheets and planning guides

  • Interactive digital tools

  • Tools to explain the Social Security shortfall and policy solutions

  • Community workshops

  • Stakeholder outreach

  • Earned media campaigns to reach broader audiences

Our materials are being shaped through focus groups, user testing, and feedback from the communities they are designed to serve.

A meeting or discussion taking place at a white outdoor table with four elderly people, two men and two women. One woman appears to be explaining something, while one man listens attentively, and the others are engaged in conversation. Coffee cups and a tissue box are on the table. The setting is outdoors with sunlight and asphalt ground.
